The Opportunity

East Java generates significant volumes of flexible and rigid polyolefin plastic but lacks sufficient aggregation and processing infrastructure to consistently serve large domestic and international buyers.

Current Status

GPT Circular is developing a village-based collection system across Malang and Madiun Regencies in East Java.

Working with local governments, village administrations, community organisations, waste banks and collectors, the program aims to recover 10,000 tonnes of previously uncollected plastic.

The material will supply a local manufacturer currently operating below capacity due to a shortage of suitable feedstock.

By linking village collection directly to confirmed local demand, the program creates a commercially viable pathway for plastic that may otherwise be burned, dumped or lost to the environment.

Supporting Existing Processors With Additional Feedstock

In many emerging markets, local plastic manufacturers and recyclers operate below capacity because they cannot secure sufficient feedstock.

GPT Circular works with existing processors and manufacturers to identify underutilised capacity, required materials and collection opportunities.

The objective is to strengthen existing local industry while building the scale and quality required to serve larger international projects.
